The Children’s Department is divided into two distinct areas for Easy Readers (infant through Grade 1) and Junior Readers (Grades 2 – 7).
The Easy Reader area is a “castle tower” complete with original art from favorite stories. Books include basic readers, storybooks, fairy tales, nonfiction books about many interesting things such as bugs, volcanoes, dinosaurs, and pets. Beginning chapter books may be found here as well. The tower offers a listening station, games, puzzles, a train table, a puppet theater with many puppets, dinosaurs, and a large rocker. Ms. Rhonda is equipped to check books out for you right in the Easy Reader room, although we do ask that you return your items at the main front desk.
The Junior Reader area is filled with artwork from classic books, old and new. Resources include a listening station, three computers with children’s games, magazines, a children’s reference center, and study tables. From the most popular fiction to just the right book for your project, you will find it here!
Children’s books include fiction, nonfiction and biographies that are color-coded with Accelerated Reading Levels. Inside the front cover, actual reading levels and points are indicated.
